3 Years of Pripyat and Chernobyl pictures – A Gallery

It’s been 3 years since i first set foot in Chernobyl and Pripyat over 8 days later and 2000 pictures i decided to put together a collection of Chernobyl pictures which sums up my visits to the Zone.

For the last 3 years i’ve spent over 8 days in Pripyat exploring as much of the city as possible as well as the surrounding areas and the small town of Slavutich (the town which was built for the workers of the clean up)

What Is Chernobyl & Pripyat?

The Chernobyl disaster was a catastrophic nuclear accident that occurred on 26 April 1986 at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant in Ukraine, which was under the direct jurisdiction of the central authorities of the Soviet Union. An explosion and fire released large quantities of radioactive particles into the atmosphere, which spread over much of Western USSR and Europe.

Pripyat was founded on 4 February 1970 to house workers for the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant. It was officially proclaimed a city in 1979 but was abandoned in 1986 following the Chernobyl disaster. It was the ninth nuclear city in the Soviet Union at the time and its population was around 49,000 before the accident at the power plant.

Maybe one day in the future i will visit Pripyat again, the area has changed a lot just in the last 3 years, it would certainly be interesting to see what it looks like in another 3 years.

I decided to have a little re-edit of my pictures from the zone from all of my trips and i’d like to share some of the best.
